Bartın's greatest asset is Amasra — one of the most visually striking small towns on the Turkish coast. The town occupies a narrow isthmus between two perfect bays, crowned by a Byzantine citadel and ringed by Genoese walls; it is often compared to a miniature Mediterranean island town, but set dramatically on the Black Sea.
Bartın city itself sits at the head of a navigable river gorge with traditional timber houses; the province is compact but highly rewarding for those seeking unspoiled coastline.
