Karabük province contains one of Turkey's most perfectly preserved Ottoman towns: Safranbolu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. Its old quarter (Çarşı) is a dense grid of 17th-century timber-framed Ottoman mansions with distinctive bay windows and red-tile roofs, built when Safranbolu was a major waystation on the Istanbul–Sinop trade route.
The Cinci Han caravanserai, the covered bazaar, traditional Yemeniciler Arastası (cobbler's market) and half a dozen working Turkish baths make it one of the most immersive historic-town experiences in Turkey.

What Karabük / Safranbolu is known for
Safranbolu's old town is traffic-free and largely intact — over 1,000 restored konaks, each with its distinctive projecting upper floors, line the lanes. The Cinci Han (1645) is the province's most important historic building: a two-storey caravanserai now operating as a hotel. Turkish delight and handmade shoes (yemeni) are the bazaar specialities.
