Muğla is the heart of Turkey's Turquoise Coast, a long sweep of the southwest where forested mountains tumble into some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean. Its name covers a string of legendary resort towns — cosmopolitan Bodrum, lively Marmaris and laid-back Fethiye — alongside quiet bays, ancient ruins and the white-stone old town of Muğla city itself.
This is the home of the 'Blue Cruise': wooden gulet yachts thread between pine-fringed coves, Lycian rock tombs and turquoise lagoons such as Ölüdeniz, while inland villages on the Datça and Bozburun peninsulas keep an older, slower Aegean rhythm.

What Muğla is known for
Muğla's coast is its glory. Bodrum pairs a Crusader castle and ancient Halicarnassus with white-washed nightlife; Marmaris and İçmeler offer big sandy bays and a busy marina; and Fethiye opens onto Ölüdeniz — the famous Blue Lagoon and a world-class paragliding spot. Between them lie Dalyan's river mouth and turtle beach, Göcek's island-studded gulf and the sleepy Datça peninsula.
- Bodrum — castle, marina, beach clubs and Halicarnassus.
- Fethiye & Ölüdeniz — the Blue Lagoon and paragliding.
- Marmaris & İçmeler — long bays and the Blue Cruise harbour.
- Dalyan, Göcek, Datça & Bozburun — quieter coves and ruins.
The Blue Cruise & turquoise coast
Muğla is the birthplace of the gulet 'Blue Cruise', where traditional wooden yachts sail multi-day routes between sheltered bays, Lycian and Carian ruins, and swimming stops in impossibly clear water. Göcek and Fethiye are the classic departure points for the Twelve Islands and the Gulf of Fethiye.
Getting around
Two airports serve the province: Bodrum-Milas in the north and Dalaman in the south (handy for Fethiye, Marmaris and Dalyan). The coast is large, so distances between resorts are real — a hire car gives the most freedom, while frequent buses and seasonal ferries (including to the Greek islands of Kos and Rhodes) link the main towns.
