Niğde is the southern gateway to the Aladağlar National Park — a dramatic range of glacier-carved peaks rising above the Taurus, with Turkey's finest alpine trekking on the Ala Dağlar trek circuit. At the other end of the scale, the Gümüşler Monastery is a compact but beautifully carved rock-hewn complex from the Byzantine period.
The city's own Seljuk citadel (İç Kale) and the carved Alaeddin Mosque give Niğde a more refined medieval character than its modest modern façade suggests.
