Marmaris is one of the Aegean’s great yacht harbours — its marina packed from May to October with gulets and sailing boats, the pine-forested hillsides above a dramatic backdrop. Beyond the harbour there’s a compact old town, some of the coast’s busiest beaches and the quieter coves of the Bozburun peninsula to the south.

The castle & old town
A small 16th-century Ottoman castle sits above the harbour — compact but rewarding, with a museum of finds from the region and good harbour views from the battlements. Below it, the old quarter (Kaleici) has narrow lanes of honey-coloured stone, a bazaar of jewellers and spice merchants, and tea houses tucked under vines.
İçmeler & the beaches
Five kilometres from the centre, İçmeleris Marmaris’s beach town — a long crescent of sand backed by pines, with calmer, cleaner water than the main harbour beach. Dolmuş minibuses run between Marmaris and İçmeler constantly through the day. Quieter coves can be reached by boat.
Dalyan & Kaunos
An hour northeast, the Dalyan River deltais one of the coast’s most distinctive landscapes — boat trips navigate through reedbeds to the river beach, where loggerhead turtles nest, and to the Kaunos ruins: Lycian rock tombs and a well-preserved Roman theatre on the cliffside above the river. The famous Sultaniye hot springs and mud baths are nearby.
Boat trips
The classic Marmaris activity is a 12-island day trip — a gulet visiting the coves and islands around the Marmaris peninsula, stopping for swimming and lunch. Longer Blue Voyage trips run west toward Bodrum or east toward Fethiye. The harbour-front is lined with boats offering both.
